Video can now be posted on Instagram

In competition with Twitter's Vine video service that was launched in January 2013, Instagram launched their competing video service on Thursday 20 June 2013.  Some key differences are:

  • Vine allows up to 6 second long videos to be posted whereas Instagram allows up to 15 seconds.

  • Instagram has 130 million users world-wide, where Vine only has 13 million although this is a bit misleading, as it doesn't take account of Twitter's 500+ million users. 

  • You can't embed an Instagram video on your website but you can with a Vine video, which is a real bonus for marketing and means Instagram falls far short in this respect.
